C4 Maths

In maths this week, we have been learning about how to gather information and use it to make a bar chart.

We used tally marks to make it easier to count the numbers. They gave us a very quick way of counting up in 5s. Our investigation questions was: When is your birthday?

We gathered all of the classes birthdays and made them into a bar chart to show how many birthdays were in each month. The chart had to have a scale on the vertical axis and labels on the horizontal axis. It also had to have a title to tell us what the information was all about.

When we had made the chart, we had to count the tally marks and draw the bar going to the correct number on our chart.

C4 Maths – Tessellations

This week we have been learning about shapes. We have learned about 2D and 3D shapes at the start of the week and we did a quiz to name them. The 2D shapes we learned about were octogon, hexagon, pentagon and quadrilaterals. We learned about how to count the faces, edges and vertices of 3D shapes and we learned the names of some 3D shapes. We learned about cubes, cuboids, cones, pyramids (square based and triangle based) and lots of other shapes!

We finished the week by learning about Escher and making tiling/tessellating patterns.

C4 Maths

In maths we have been learning how to direct people through different routes. We have used the words:

  • Anti-clockwise
  • Clockwise
  • Right
  • Left
  • Quarter turns
  • Half turns
  • Full turns
  • Three quarter turns
  • Forwards
  • Backwards

We had fun directing other partners and at the end we tried directing two people to meet each other but they had to have their eyes closed! It turned into a game about maths and trust 🙂

C4 Dream Catchers

We have been learning how to design and make our own dream catchers. It was a sunny day so we went to the park and collected sticks to start making them. We put the sticks in a criss cross and wrapped the string around them. Then we added the last stick to make a triangle. Then we got some wool and we started to weave the wool around the sticks. This was very tricky! One of us thought ‘it was hard but it was worth it!’

At the end we attached string with feathers and beads to make it look nice. Even though it was tricky, there was a technique to everything and once you knew the technique it was easier.

We were pleased that we finished them just in time for the school fair!
